Today marks the inaugural day of recognition for paramedics and first responders around the globe. International Paramedics Day is about celebrating and recognising the vital work that paramedics do and the many ways in which they help and care for people when they are most in need.
At all times, but in particular during the Covid pandemic, paramedics put the wellbeing and interests of others first. They have continued to work tirelessly, often in the most challenging of circumstances and at great risk to themselves. We are continually grateful for their efforts and dedication on the frontline.
The #IPD2022 theme is #ProudToBeAParamedic - with professionals encouraged to share their proudest moments, and members of the public invited to share their stories and experiences, on social media.
To help celebrate and mark this occasion, we spoke to Graphnet’s Clinical Workflow Lead & Clinical Safety Officer, Brandon Newman. He joined the company last year, after 16 years serving as a paramedic, a profession he is immensely proud of. With the support of the company, he remains operational on the frontline to this day.
We will be sharing insights into his story on our social media platforms throughout the day, including what being a Paramedic means to him, how the profession has evolved, the vital role they play in so many areas and his proudest moment.
He also discusses how his clinical knowledge and experience help shape our solutions and why shared care records are the vital piece of the puzzle on the frontline of care.

“Today is International Paramedics Day, a fantastic day to recognise what paramedics do and how far the profession has come in recent years. I became a paramedic because I wanted to make a difference to people's lives and enjoy working in a dynamic environment. You never know what the next call will bring and what challenges you will face.
It’s a privilege to be able walk into a stranger’s life and be trusted to look after their loved one, whether it be a child, parent, partner or friend, with the aim to get them through this traumatic time. I am very proud to say that I have made a real difference and families still have their loved ones because of the decisions taken at the time.
I am now bringing my clinical experience to Graphnet, helping shape our shared care solutions for the benefit of all my colleagues out there on the road. For me, the shared care record was the missing piece of the puzzle for frontline responders. Having that wealth of information available means we know so much more about the individual we are caring for and what their wishes are.
The profession is continuously evolving, and our advancing education means paramedics are shaping the future of pre-hospital care. So, unlike 35-40 years ago when most people would have been taken to hospital irrespective of their needs or wishes, paramedics now assess patients and allow them to remain at home (with referrals into other services as required) - which is far more beneficial for the individuals concerned. I am excited to see what the next ten years bring!”
