ReSPECT Form

A ReSPECT form (Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment), although not legally binding, records a patient's wishes about a range of care and treatments. This plan can be used in any future emergency in which they are unable to make or express choices. It includes information about attempting or not attempting CPR.

Who benefits from a ReSPECT form?

The ReSPECT process can be for anyone but will have increasing importance for people with complex health needs, people who are likely to be nearing the end of their lives and people at risk of sudden deterioration. The recommendations recorded on the plan are created through conversations with an individual, their family and care professionals to fully understand firstly what is important to them and, secondly, what is realistic in terms of their care and treatment.

An accredited digitised ReSPECT form

Graphnet has worked closely with the Resuscitation Council to create a digitised version of the current 3.5 version of the paper-based ReSPECT form. The digital plan can be stored and accessed within the Graphnet Shared Care record and has been fully accredited by the Resuscitation Council.

Support the adoption of the ReSPECT process throughout the UK

The ReSPECT process is increasingly being adopted within health and care communities around the UK. Therefore, the digitisation of the ReSPECT form supports the process intended to respect patient preferences and clinical judgement. By capturing essential information within the plan and bringing it into the shared care record, health and social care professionals can share vital data in a timely manner across the user base.
